Afghan Interior Ministry said Monday that following Pakistani military’s attempt to reconstruct their check posts alongside the border next to Afghan Goshta district, clashes broke out between theforces of the two countries.
Pakistani forces rejected obection from Afghan border police andeventually sparked the clash which lasted for two hours, the Afghanministry said.
“The attacks started this morning but ended in two hours,” said Gul Agha Shirzoi, provincial governor of Nangarhar.
The Afghan Interior Ministry added that two military check posts and one tank belonging to Pakistani forces were destroyed, but there were no casualties.
“They were once again trying to found military facilities, disregarded our objections, and it was them who started the clashes first,” said Seddiq Seddiqi, Afghan interior ministry’s spokesman.
The Ministry has warned that the Afghan forces will take military actions if Pakistan endeavours to put together facilities over Afghan side.
The incident has brought up suggestions from Afghan officials to ask the country’s youth to mobilise to assist national forces.
“All the youths be prepared to defend their soil alongside the Afghan security forces,” said Fazlulhadi Muslimyar, Afghan senate chair.
Meanwhile, Afghan foreign ministry has expressed serious objections to Pakistani Chargé d'affaires in Kabul.
There are fears that continuation of such clashes could result in civilian casualties as there are residents who live across the area.
“Foreign forces in Afghanistan consider interfering in this issue as a matter out of their competencies,” said MP Faraidoon Momand, “They only consider the Afghan soil as their region of work.”
Remarking on resolution to the issue, Dominic Medley, spokesman for Nato's senior civilian representative to Afghanistan has said “The tripartite commission the United Nation Security council etc are the ways diplomatically that any issues between two sovereign countries should be dealt with,”.
Afghan political expert Jawid Kohistani said “Pakistan is currently engaged with its elections and can create problems to Afghanistan by using insurgents.”
First border clash between Afghanistan and Pakistan took place Wednesday night resulting in casualties to both sides.
