An Afghan man has killed his wife and his brother’s wife in northern Kunduz province, and managed to escape, local officials said Sunday.
A month ago, the man had married Malika an 18-year-old girl. He killed her and his brother's wife named Jamila, 35, in his house in Khanabad district of the province, the district governor Habibullah said.
The murderer has escaped from the area. The police have arrested his sister and niece in connection to the case, according to Kunduz police.
The police said primary investigations show that the murderer has killed both of the women in a room in his house.
The motive of the murderer is not yet clear. It is said that the family of Malika had asked 50,000 Afghani as dowry but Malika’s husband had paid 30,000 and this had caused “some disagreements between them.”
Meanwhile, officials in the provincial Women's Affairs Department Nadera Geya condemned the murder and asked for the immediate arrest of the murderer.
In the middle of this year, 25 women have been killed and the incidents raised concerns of the human rights organisations.
