The Afghan lawmakers have decided Wednesday to summon the Interior Minister Mojtaba Patang over accusing MPs and senators of illegal interference in the affairs of the ministry.

The decision comes after Mojtaba Patang refused to go the parliament to be questioned and sent his comment in a letter to the lawmakers.

Patang's absence was criticised by lawmakers, calling it an insult to Parliament.

"The Interior Minister said that a committee can call him [for questioning], not the lawmakers.

"Such a word is ridiculous as the committees are part of Parliament. His absence is an insult to parliament." MP Assadullah Saadati said.

Another MP Wazhma Safi said: "The Interior Minister did not come to Parliament, and this is disrespect to Parliament and it becomes clear that he does not have any answer to our questions."

Meanwhile, 20 percent of lawmakers have signed to impeach the interior minister.

"The Interior Minister should be impeached based on the signatures of 20 percent of lawmakers, but the committees will decide over exact date of his impeachment," The House Speaker Abdul Raouf Ibrahimi said.

Today's decision has followed some criticism as well.

"The Interior Minister showed his bravery by revealing names of dealers in parliament. His impeachment is a hasty decision, it should not be done." MP Shakila Hashimi said.

"The Interior Minister's decision was a right decision. He should not be impeached. There are other ministers who are impotent in their work; evidence is also available about them." said MP Shokria Paikan.

Last week, the Interior Minister considers interference of the representatives of the National Council as illegal and calls it a serious challenge ahead of him, adding that he received more than fifteen thousand application forms for doing personal work from the national council representatives in the last four months.

The Minister had said that he had been summoned thirty two times to parliament and fourteen times to the senate house.

The ministry had also said that members of both houses in these letters want that their persons of interest must be hired in different departments of the ministry.
