Afghan President Hamed Karzai has proposed new demands in signing security agreement with the United Sates.
President Karzai in a meeting with a number of elders and religious scholars of Laghman province in his office, said that Afghanistan will sign the agreement when the US guarantees security in Afghanistan and equips Afghan security forces with modern weapons.
Meanwhile, the United States Embassy to Afghanistan said that the agreement will assure stability and security in Afghanistan.
The US Embassy officials said that US respects Afghanistan's sovereignty and will ensure security in the country.
"The end result would be an enduring security of partnership, a real partnership that would provide security and stability in the future.
We respect the sovereignty of Afghanistan. That is one of the foundations for this agreement," a Senior Negotiator of the United States said.
Afghan analysts want the United States to guarantee security for Afghanistan.
"The foreign forces in Afghanistan have adopted impartial position, the situation should be ended. The foreign forces' presence should mean to guarantee security. The presence of their bases should defend Afghanistan against outside invasion, otherwise what benefit will Afghanistan get?," University Lecturer Najib Fahim told TOLOnews.
Previously, Afghan president Hamid Karzai had said that Afghanistan will not hurry to sign the security agreement with the US in order to consider national interests in this agreement.
