Afghanistan's lasting peace and stability needs positive engagement of the neighbouring country, Pakistan, Anders Fogh Rasmussen said on Tuesday.
Nato Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen has said that he will make efforts to seek a resolution for the Afghan crisis in the trilateral between Afghanistan, Pakistan and the United Sates in Brussels.
On the eve of the talks, Nato's Secretary General is attempting to convince Pakistan to seriously collaborate in Afghanistan's peace process.
"On the trilateral talks, I commend all efforts to facilitate the political processes. It goes without saying that if we are to ensure long term peace and stability in Afghanistan we also need a positive engagement of Pakistan, of Afghanistan's neighbours including Pakistan. So I hope the trilateral talks can facilitate such engagement and such political process," Reuters quoted Rasmussen as saying.
Meanwhile, German Foreign Minister stressed on the continuation of his country's assistance to Afghanistan, saying that Germany has a big responsibility in Afghanistan.
"Germany has a big responsibility in the north, we are a leading country there, and for the other countries, it is important to know what we Germans want to contribute, so others can assess for themselves what their own contributions should be. What the German government has said about its engagement is not to rush forward, but to look ahead at where we want to be engaged and how much we want to be engaged," German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle has said.
Nato foreign ministers arrived in Brussels on Tuesday (April 23) to discuss a host of international security issues, ranging from the peace process in Afghanistan.
The ministers' meeting will be followed by talks on Wednesday between Afghan President Hamid Karzai, US Secretary of State John Kerry and senior Pakistani officials to discuss the flagging Afghan peace process.
