President Hamid Karzai has ordered security officials take immediate action following reports that Pakistan's military are building up their checkpoints on the border with Afghanistan.
"Ten years ago a Pakistani delegation with the help of the coalition's [Nato] forces had established 11 military check posts near Durand line. Now Pakistan has deployed heavy weapons, soldiers and trying to rebuild the old check posts," Karzai's office said in a statement Sunday.
A delegation headed by Afghan army chief of staff Gen Sher Mohammad Karimi was appointed to investigate the activities of the Pakistani military on the Durand line, namely the checkpoints bordering the Goshta district of eastern Nangarhar province.
The delegation briefed the Afghan National Security Council on Sunday regarding Pakistan's construction of gates and other military facilities.
Defence Minister Gen Bismillah Mohammadi and Afghan border police commander Gul Nabi Ahmadzai also briefed the security council on the issue.
Last week, the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that ongoing shelling attacks from Pakistan into the border areas of Afghanistan are unacceptable.
"The continuation of attacks to our border areas are not acceptable and the Pakistani government should iimmediately stop the attacks," MOFA spokesman Janan Mosazai said.
But Pakistan has consistently rejected these claims of the Afghan government.
