Afghanistan and Pakistan need to take practical steps to build the trust and confidence between the two in order to better combat extremism and radicalism in the region, President Hamid Karzai said Thursday.

Speaking at the 7th trilateral meeting between Afghanistan, Pakistan and Turkey, Karzai said that radicalism and extremism should not continue to threaten or kill the people of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

"We discussed various ways of putting into action the promises that we have made with the hope that now we should be taking practical steps in bringing more confidence and trust with reserves to the countries of Afghanistan and Pakistan," he said in the Turkish capital Ankara.

"So, hopefully the fight against extremism and radicalism will come to a conclusion whereby the population of the two countries is not threatened, killed or challenged by these extremists," he added.

Meanwhile, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari said that he will take Turkey's advice very seriously into consideration.

"The world does want to help us but they don't know how. So, we have taken that advice seriously – we always take Turkey's advice very seriously – and we are going ahead with it no matter how many obstacles come between," Zardari said.

The officials of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Turkey also discussed the issue of peace negotiations between the Afghan government and the Taliban.
