A ten-year-old boy has been murdered after he was allegedly rape in the Aqcha district of northern Jawzjan province, according to local officials.
The media office of the Jawzjan police on Monday said that the boy left his family home to collect water and never returned.
His mother went looking for him and found him dead, hanging by the neck in a garden near their home, the office said.
No one has been arrested or charged in relation to the incident but police are still investigating, the office added.
Jawzjan police commander Gen Abdul Aziz Azat said that the murder happened on March 27 and added that the rape was not confirmed.
"This boy was an orphan and he was living with his mother. His body was found on the 27th and it is not clear yet whether he was raped or not," he told TOLOnews.
In Afghanistan, a person is said to be an orphan if their father has died.
