Female US military instructors are helping train Afghan women police in home checks and body search techniques in central Maidan Wardak province, local officials said on Wednesday.

Provincial police chief Sardar Mohammad Zazai said that the training, requested by the Afghan National Police, is seen as effective to assist security operations in different parts of the province.

"It was necessary that the female police received training in the area of body search techniques. The US forces accepted our request [to train them] and have launched a one month training course. These programmes will continue in the future," he told TOLOnews.

He said that there had been some challenges in terms of searching women but these will be solved with the training.

"The training is useful for the body search techniques and we can learn various ways to search women," Wardak female police officer Pashtana said.

Currently, there are 25 female police working in Maidan Wardak province.
