At least three Taliban commanders have been killed or captured during military operations since Sunday, according to Isaf and Afghan officials.

Taliban leader Allah Nur was killed Monday during a joint security operation of Afghan and Isaf forces in Baghlan-e-Jadid district of Baghlan province, Isaf said.

"Allah Nur controlled more than a dozen insurgents and was responsible for improvised explosive device attacks in Baghlan-e-Jadid. He also oversaw the transportation and distribution of weapons and ammunition for insurgents in the district," Isaf said in its operations update Tuesday.

Security forces also detained three other insurgents, seized homemade explosives, bomb-making materials and several rocket propelled grenades during the operation, Isaf added.

In eastern Nangarhar province, a top Taliban commander, Abdul Raham, has been detained along with three other Taliban insurgents in an special operation of the Afghan National Army in the Bati Kott district, ANA officials said.

Spokesman Col. Mohammed Numan Atafi said the operation in the area is ongoing and will continue until the insurgents are cleared.

"Malawi Abdul Raham, the Taliban commander, and three other insurgents have been detained in this operation," Atifi told TOLOnews.

The group were known as bomb-makers and had been active in fomenting insecurity in the area, Atifi said. They were responsible for road-side bombing and preparing explosive vests for terrorists attacks in the country.

In northeastern Noristan province, a clash between Taliban and Afghan security forces has left at least one Afghan police officer and three Taliban dead, with another police officer and three Taliban wounded, Nuristan police commander Gulamullah Nuristani told TOLOnews.

The clash broke out when a group of Taliban attacked the district governor compound in the Barg-e-Mattal district, he said.

Meanwhile, Isaf has confirmed that Taliban leader Amin Jan was killed with at least three other insurgents during an operation in eastern Laghman province's Qarghahi district on Sunday.

Amin Jan was directly involved in the kidnapping of US doctor Dilip Joseph in Kabul on December 5, Isaf said.

It is not clear if the operation in which Amin Jan was killed is the same pre-dawn operation in which Joseph was rescued by special forces.
